Location: Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

NAI has served the HHPSD by providing groundwater modeling services, well testing, and groundwater resource planning since 2019.

Groundwater modeling was utilized to determine optimized locations for a new reverse osmosis (RO) well and Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) well and to address regulatory concerns.

The model investigated Island-wide peak season water levels in the Middle Floridian Aquifer (MFA) associated with proposed withdrawals from a new ASR well and a new RO well to determine optimized locations that reduce saltwater intrusion.

Services Provided

NAI performed the following services to support / calibrate the the HHPSD groundwater model:

  •  Collected transient water level data from MFA wellfield shutdown from various monitoring wells across the HHPSD service area to provide data for model collaboration.
  • Collected steady-state water level data from various monitoring wells to construct a potentiometric surface map of the MFA to support steady-state calibration of the groundwater model.
  • NAI continues to provide hydrogeologic services to the HHPSD and is providing the hydrogeology support for the construction and testing of two new MFA wells in the Fall of 2024, a new ASR well and a new RO well.
